Hey, what's up y'all? It's Julian, AKA just Julian H, don't forget the H, back to you guys with another video. Today, I want to talk about whether you should train heavy with heavy weights. Now, I like to keep things simple, so here's the short answer: yes, you should train relatively heavy. But hold on, heavy is subjective. What's heavy for you may be different from what's heavy for me or Mary Jo or John Q. So let's dive into why training heavy is important and how you can tailor it to your own goals and experience.

Pushing Past the Beginner Stage

When you first start working out, you make what we call beginner gains. You see progress quickly and everything feels challenging. But eventually, you reach a point where you need to push yourself further to keep making new adaptations and reaching new levels. Whether your goal is gaining muscle, slimming down, or maintaining, you have to challenge your body in different ways. And one of the simplest ways to do that is to train relatively heavy or heavier than when you started.

Progression and Adapting

If you're still training with the same weights and rep scheme from day one to day 365, you're not capitalizing on the progress you could be making. Whether it's losing fat, gaining muscle, or any other fitness goal, training heavy helps you stimulate your muscles and create new adaptations. So yes, you should definitely train heavy.

Tailoring Heavy Training to Your Goals

Now, let's break down my personal philosophy when it comes to training heavy. When working with a new client, I always ask about their goals and priorities. We all have different goals, and it depends on your experience and expectations. As someone who's been doing this for a while, my goals change over time. Recently, I've been focused on performance, athleticism, and quickness. But I still incorporate heavy strength training to maintain the gains I've made over the years.

The Importance of Weight Training

Even if gaining muscle isn't your main goal, you still need a certain amount of weight training. It helps maintain lean muscle mass, burn body fat, and overall improve your fitness. So don't be afraid of heavy weights, regardless of your gender. Push yourselves and don't hold back.
