These were the thieves, drawn to the chaos like moths to a flame. While we struggled with the aftermath of the earthquake, they roamed freely, helping themselves to whatever they desired.

Our trusty donkey, a loyal companion in our daily life, remained unscathed, a curious contrast to the pillaged homes. The thieves seemed to have a peculiar sense of ethics, sparing the innocent creature.

Of these, 3,428 were categorized as moderately damaged, while 45,245 showed minimal harm.

The heart of the destruction, Merkez Bağlar, stood as a testament to the power of a united community. In the Şeyh Şamil neighborhood, the 1994-built Sincar Apartment building suffered moderate damage. The residents, too afraid to enter their homes, found themselves in a precarious situation.
