Compassion and mercy are fundamental principles in Islam. However, it is crucial to be cautious and not redefine these concepts in a way that contradicts the teachings of Allah. In today's world, some individuals may fear that standing up bravely or courageously goes against the mercy that Islam advocates. Yet, it is essential to understand that the ultimate standard of compassion and mercy lies in the actions of the prophets.

In Surah, we witness how Prophet Noah dealt with those who rejected his message. In his prayer to Allah, Prophet Noah implores for the eradication of these individuals from the Earth. At first glance, this prayer may not immediately appear merciful or compassionate according to our modern sensibilities. However, it is crucial to consider the context and the nature of their rejection.

The people Prophet Noah had been calling for a prolonged period of time had willfully rejected the truth. They deliberately covered their ears and closed their minds to the message. Their rejection was not due to a lack of understanding but stemmed from a moral failure. Allah describes their rejection as a result of arrogance and a refusal to accept the truth.

In response to this moral failing, Prophet Noah's prayer to Allah was to wipe them out entirely. He expressed concern that if they were allowed to remain on Earth, they would mislead and corrupt others, referring to them as "slaves." This highlights the genuine concern for the well-being and guidance of the broader creation.

It is important to note that while Prophet Muhammad is indeed described as a mercy to the worlds, he also engaged in battles and made supplications against certain individuals. These actions were not driven by personal animosity but were responses to moral failings and arrogance. As ordinary individuals, we do not possess the ability to discern the sincerity of others or their ultimate guidance. However, this does not mean that we should become cowards or redefine mercy to conform to a more modern definition that simply entails being nice and friendly to everyone.

If someone attacks Islam or oppresses others, regardless of their faith, it is our duty to stand up against them. This can be done through verbal discourse, writings, books, videos, or any other means available to us. We must be cautious not to let the concept of mercy and compassion become diluted or redefined. Our understanding of mercy and compassion should align with the teachings and actions of the prophets, as exemplified in Surah.
