Crystal Meth Addict Interview-Roman (Follow Up)
"Roman, welcome back! What's going on, man?" It's been a couple of years since we last met, and my guest, Roman, smiles as he begins to recount his journey.
Roman, a vibrant soul with face tattoos that tell the story of his life, once shared his tale on the streets of Skid Row with his girlfriend, Jess. Now, he clarifies that they are still together but taking a break. "We're with each other 24/7," he explains. "We're going on six years now. We're just taking a little break from each other."
Their life remains a testament to resilience, as they await housing assistance through Section 8, still calling the streets their home.
Since our last meeting, Roman and Jess have moved to 29 Palms, staying with Roman's step-grandfather. He's been pursuing his passion for music, operating a small studio under the name Royal Talent. "I've been just focusing on my music. Even on the street, I get on my phone to make my songs," Roman proudly shares. His impressive repertoire includes over 200 songs, 300 beats, mix and master productions, and even two songs on the radio.
Roman's journey is not without its share of challenges. He admits that drugs, particularly meth, have been a part of his life, although he emphasizes that it's not as prevalent as before. He's still wrestling with this battle, showing the complex nature of addiction.
Furthermore, they are confronted with Jess's health struggles. She faced a severe heart infection that affected various organs, leading to paranoia and delusions. The drugs they've been using don't provide solace. The strains in their relationship are evident, yet they stand strong together, united by love.
Roman's face tattoos, undoubtedly striking and unconventional, have led to harsh judgments and comments from onlookers. But Roman views them as art, a reflection of his unique journey. He embraces his individuality and the profound meaning behind each symbol etched on his face. For him, it's not a decision he regrets; it's a statement of self-expression.
As someone who's spent years on the streets, Roman has learned some valuable lessons. The foremost is not to trust everybody. The streets are a place where relationships quickly unravel, and trust is a rare commodity. People have preconceived notions about him due to his appearance, but he remains resolute in his individuality.
What lies ahead for Roman? He dreams of housing, a roof over his head, and stability. This prospect excites him, as it opens doors to further his education and music career. He recognizes that sobriety is essential for this new chapter, promising to put an end to his drug use once he secures housing.
Roman's journey is one of resilience and the enduring power of love. While their relationship faces hurdles, Roman and Jess continue to support each other. Roman's face tattoos, a source of both art and judgment, symbolize his unwavering commitment to individuality.
As Roman forges ahead with hope and determination, his story reminds us that unconventional paths can still lead to redemption and transformation. It's a testament to the enduring human spirit, seeking art and meaning in the most unexpected places.
