In response to my friend's claim that we cannot access certain areas in the city, I'd like to remind him, as a good lawyer, that the Constitution provides for the right of assembly and freedom of movement. Unless my friend is losing his mind due to his political convictions, there is no place in Kenya where its citizens can be strictly restricted from going, including State House, a public office. Article one of the Constitution clearly states that the sovereign power in Kenya belongs to the people. The people delegate this power to the executive, legislature, and judiciary. In the current situation, invoking article one becomes relevant because Parliament is being held hostage by the state. Members of Parliament are being bought off, including my dear friend here.

The Power of the People

The truth is, my friend, that you signed a coalition agreement with Azimio, a one-man party. You made the decision to move towards Kenya Kwanzaa even before you became a member of Parliament. And it's not just you; we are aware of many others in Nyanza and the nine MPS. It is clear that Parliament and the judiciary have been taken hostage. So, what options are left to us? Invoking article one of the Constitution and going back to the people. This is what they are telling us. Through people's assembly barrages across the country, Kenyans have expressed their concerns about the high cost of living, unfulfilled promises of the Kenya Kwanza regime, corruption, and electoral justice. So what is the path to solutions? Engaging the people through demonstrations and barazas – that is the way forward.

A Strategy for Change

Now, what strategy will yield results? Let me explain. Despite their attempts to block us, we understand their tactics now. We will become better organized and more resolute as we continue with our Monday holidays. Everything that you claim did not happen will happen. The focus of the demonstrations was on Nairobi yesterday, but soon we will see demonstrations in more counties. And trust me, it will become bigger, more organized, and more tactful. We will access those areas that you believe are restricted. I just ask for your patience and trust in our strategy.

Mass Action and Its Forms

Mass action is often misunderstood as simply taking to the streets and demonstrating. But there are various techniques and forms of mass action that we will employ. The issue of the high cost of living affects all of us, but those in power made promises to address these issues within specific timelines, and they have failed to deliver. When they are questioned, they resort to playing politics and displaying arrogance. This is not just a political issue; it is an issue that affects all Kenyans.

As we move forward with our strategy, let us remember that we are fighting for the rights of the people. Our aim is to bring about change and hold those in power accountable. Through peaceful demonstrations and engaging the people in dialogue, we can create a better future for all Kenyans. Remember, the power lies with the people, and it is through their collective voice that we can shape the destiny of our nation. So let us stand together, united in our pursuit of justice, equality, and progress.
