Grading the Top Picks

Starting with the number one overall pick, the New Orleans Pelicans selecting Zion Williamson, it's difficult to give a clear grade. Despite Williamson's immense talent, his ongoing injury issues have been a major concern. At this point, giving the Pelicans a B grade seems fair, considering the potential he has shown when healthy. However, his future performance could swing the grade to either an F or an A.

Moving on to the number two pick, the Memphis Grizzlies selecting Ja Morant, it's an easy A+. Morant has proven himself to be an incredible playmaker, consistently improving his offensive skills and dominating the court. There's no doubt that he deserves the highest grade.

The number three pick, RJ Barrett, is a bit more challenging to grade. While he has shown glimpses of brilliance, he has also struggled with consistency and defensive effort. For now, a C grade seems appropriate, as he has plateaued in his development and has the potential to be just an average player in the long run.

Assessing Selective Talent

Moving down the draft to the number four pick, the Atlanta Hawks selecting De'Andre Hunter. Unfortunately, Hunter has not lived up to expectations, delivering only average performances. A C grade seems fitting for this selection.

Next up, the number five pick, Darius Garland, chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers. This selection deserves an A+ grade, as Garland has proven to be one of the best point guards in the league. His focus on getting his teammates involved and his overall offensive skills make him an exceptional player.

The Minnesota Timberwolves' pick at number six, Jarrett Culver, deserves an F minus grade. Culver has shown no promise and has been a complete disappointment for the team. This selection is one of the most disappointing in recent years.

The Middle Zone

At picks seven, eight, and nine (Kobe White, Jackson Hayes, and Rui Hachimura), we find a series of mediocre selections that all deserve a C grade. While these players have shown some potential, they have also failed to make a significant impact, making them just rotation players rather than top picks.

Moving further down the draft to number ten, the Phoenix Suns selecting Cameron Reddish. This pick deserves a D grade, as Reddish has had difficulty fitting into a team and controlling his offensive instincts. If he could focus on defense and off-ball scoring, he could be a valuable asset, but for now, he has been a disappointment.

Hidden Gems

Now let's take a look at some of the later picks that have turned out to be hidden gems. Starting with the number 11 pick, the Phoenix Suns selecting Cam Johnson. This pick deserves a B+ grade, as Johnson has proven to be a remarkable shooter and a valuable player for the Suns.

At number 12, the Charlotte Hornets selecting PJ Washington. This pick earns a B grade, as Washington has shown promise but lacks the potential for All-Star status. He is a solid player but not someone who can carry a team to success.

Next up, the number 13 pick, Tyler Herro, chosen by the Miami Heat. This pick deserves an A grade, with the only drawback being Herro's defensive issues. He has shown incredible talent and has the potential to challenge for the title of Sixth Man of the Year.

Late-Round Surprises

Now let's turn our attention to some of the late-round surprises that deserve recognition. At number 20, Matisse Thybulle deserves a B grade, as he has proven to be an exceptional defensive player but struggles with shooting consistency. Grant Williams at number 22 also earns a B grade, although he has recently seen a decline in his performance. His versatility and defensive skills make him a valuable asset to the Boston Celtics.

Moving on to number 28, Jordan Poole, selected by the Golden State Warriors. This pick deserves an A grade, as Poole has shown incredible potential and has been a steal for the team. Although his defensive shortcomings might hold him back, his offensive skills are remarkable.

Wrapping it Up

As we reach the end of the draft, let's acknowledge a few more late-round successes. Keldon Johnson at number 29 deserves an A grade, as he has displayed versatility and intriguing offensive abilities. Kevin Porter Jr. at number 30 also deserves a B grade, as he has shown immense talent offensively but lacks consistency.

And there you have it, a regrading of the 2019 NBA draft. This class was filled with incredible talent and some interesting selections. Feel free to let me know in the comments which grades you agree or disagree with the most. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and until next time, keep enjoying the excitement of basketball!
