The Inspiration behind "Jealousy"

So, "Jealousy" came to us somewhere in the midst of writing and crafting all the songs. Although they won't be released in order, this particular track was one that was very clear to us from the start – both lyrically and vocally. It delves deep into the theme of feeling jealous, especially within the scope of our creative industry.

As artists, we often find ourselves surrounded by countless opportunities and achievements, yet we can't help but notice others who seem to be doing even better. It's a battle against self-doubt, a yearning to overcome jealousy, and ultimately, a call to be proud of our own accomplishments.

This song holds profound meaning for us. We've been in the industry for quite some time, even though it doesn't always feel that way. There are already artists who have been around longer and those who are leaps and bounds ahead in their careers. It's easy to succumb to jealousy and forget about the amazing things we're already doing.

Unleashing the Musical Beast

Musically, "Jealousy" emerged during the middle of our final writing phase for the album. At that point, Sam and I were feeling completely burnt out. We had been tirelessly crafting riffs, beats, and melodies for weeks. So, we wanted to do something different. We decided to write a chorus that hit straight through, without unnecessary frills.

This song became a respite for us amidst the creative storm. While the other songs on the album pushed boundaries and experimented with different styles, "Jealousy" was a return to our roots. We wanted to make it unapologetically straightforward, delivering the rock guitar and drum parts that we knew so well. It became an opportunity to simply have fun and let loose.

The interesting part was how the lyrics beautifully contrasted the simplicity of the music. We took the heavy topic of jealousy and laid it over the foundation of the song, creating a captivating blend. This deliberate choice emphasized the song's specific message, which differed from some of the other tracks where the lyrics were inspired by the music.

Capturing the Visual Essence

When it came to creating the music video for "Jealousy," we knew we wanted to visually represent the feeling of jealousy and inadequacy without being too on-the-nose. We wanted to avoid the cliché storyline approach and take a more artistic route.

The concept of paint played a significant role in showcasing the gradual degradation of one's psyche. We envisioned Audra, one of our band members, wearing all white and being enveloped by paint throughout the video. It symbolized the overwhelming nature of jealousy that slowly seeps into one's mindset.

The video started with this core idea and evolved with each adjustment and enhancement. We wanted to make sure it captivated viewers without overshadowing the song itself.

Behind the Scenes of the "Jealousy" Video Shoot

For the video shoot of "Jealousy," we found the perfect location – an abandoned warehouse undergoing renovations. It provided us with an atmosphere that perfectly matched the song's energy.

We began by setting up the lights and all the necessary equipment, ensuring that everything was in place to bring our vision to life. However, before we started recording, we needed to fine-tune the camera angles and lighting. It required a few run-throughs to ensure we captured the perfect shots.

Amidst the process, the freezing cold temperatures proved to be quite the challenge. But, with passion and dedication coursing through our veins, we willingly endured the discomfort for the sake of art.

The Road to Completion

As we progressed through our video shoot, we couldn't help but reflect on the larger journey we were undertaking. With "Jealousy," we were three videos into our ambitious goal of releasing eight videos, one per month. Though we had already faced some unexpected obstacles and had to adjust our timeline, we remained committed to our vision.

It was reassuring to know that the songs for the album were already written and complete. The weight of having a fully-formed album lifted some of the pressure we felt. Now, we were focused on executing our plans, diving headfirst into each video while maintaining the quality we aspired to achieve.

Yes, the road ahead was still challenging, but we found solace in the fact that we had time on our side. We were determined to get ahead of schedule and deliver the best possible experience to our fans.
