In a dazzling display of creativity and craftsmanship, British milliner Justin Smith of J Smith Esquire has crafted a magnificent crown out of 319 Scrabble pieces. This labor of love is a tribute to two momentous occasions - the upcoming coronation and the 75th anniversary of the popular word game, Scrabble.

Drawing inspiration from the Saint Edwards Crown, which will be used by King Charles during his coronation, Smith meticulously assembled the crown over 153 hours. His aim was to reflect the majestic nature of the original crown, while also adding a touch of sparkle with jewels, crystals, and gold accents. To maintain an air of regality, Smith even sourced the crown's purple velvet fabric from Joel and Sons, the same Couture fabric supplier used by the Royal Family.

"It was a labor of love to reimagine this iconic headwear. The Scrabble tiles creatively integrated with traditional millinery techniques celebrate Scrabble's 75th Anniversary, while also honoring the king's coronation," said Smith.

The Scrabble replica closely mirrors the design of the Saint Edwards Crown, featuring four crosses patties, four fleur-de-lis, and two arches. But that's not all - the crown also incorporates a faux fur trim bedecked with miniature Scrabble tiles from the travel Scrabble Edition. Tiles from the deluxe and original editions complete the jeweled crown. Weighing two kilograms and with a circumference of 75 centimeters, the Scrabble Crown is a sight to behold.

To add an extra layer of detail, words including "King," "coronation," and "Royal" have been strategically added to the crown. Only the keenest eyes will be able to spot these hidden gems.

Before the coronation, the Scrabble Crown will be displayed at the Entertainer toy store in Westfield White City. But don't worry if you can't make it there - the crown will surely make its mark as a symbol of the timeless connection between words and the joy of Scrabble.

Celebrating with Commemorative Coins

Continuing the celebrations, a new range of commemorative coins will be released to mark the coronation. The collection includes a 50p and 5-pound coin, both featuring King Charles III. The coins, designed by artist and sculptor Martin Jennings, depict the king wearing the Tudor crown.

The 50p coin designed by Natasha Jenkins, the Royal Mint's resident designer, features an image of Westminster Abbey. The drawing symbolizes King Charles' presence inside the Abbey during his coronation. Meanwhile, the 5-pound coin designed by Timothy No features the coronation regalia and the Saint Edwards Crown, both revered symbols of the ceremony.

For avid collectors, ounce coins of different editions and sizes will also be available. These coins showcase the king's portrait on one side and an intricate design by John Bergdahl on the other.

Excitingly, these coins will be available for purchase starting from April 24. The 50p coins can be bought for prices ranging from 11 pounds to 1,220 pounds, while the 5-pound coins are priced between 14 pounds 50 and 2,995 pounds. As a special treat, a one-kilogram solid gold proof coin featuring the designs of Jennings and Bergdahl will also go on sale for 77,565 pounds.

In addition to the commemorative coins, 5 million 50p coins featuring the original uncrowned Effigy of Charles by Martin Jennings and the commemorative Westminster Abbey drawing by Natasha Jenkins will enter circulation in 2023. These coins are sure to become treasured collectibles for coin enthusiasts across the nation.

Words, Crowns, and the Power of Expression

At the heart of these tributes and celebrations lies a profound appreciation for the power of words. Scrabble, a game that has fostered meaningful connections across generations for 75 years, continues to be an iconic presence in countless households. The Scrabble Crown serves as a reminder of the joy and creativity that words bring to our lives.

Similarly, the commemorative coins symbolize the historic occasion of King Charles' coronation and his reign. They not only honor tradition but also highlight the significance of positive expression in both the personal and national realms.

As we anticipate King Charles III's coronation and witness the merging of Scrabble and royalty, let us remember the profound impact that words can have on our lives. May they continue to connect, inspire, and celebrate our diverse human experiences.
